MerMania 2017!

Posted on

For the second year in a row, hundreds of merfolk came together in North Carolina for MerMania! Held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center, the event featured 3 days of workshops, swimming, vendors, and fellowship.

Daniel Craig, the founder of the event, said, "NC MerMania was borne of a simple concept, a gathering of merfolk to swim together in friendship. A place where anyone with a tail would gather to feel welcome and that is the spirit that guides our efforts. It has grown beyond my wildest expectations into an event that garnered international media attention and an explosion of interest in this hobby!"

One highlight of this year's event was special guest Philo Barnhart. Barnhart was the animator for Disney's The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and others. He was there to greet fans, sign autographs and participate in panel discussions.

"Swimming and Storytime with a Mermaid", a ticketed event open to the public, was another popular feature. Children could come and learn how to swim like a Mermaid and listen to stories about the ocean.

After spending time in workshops and panel discussions, it was time to hit the pool, make new Mer-Friends and show off your moves! (Not to mention your tails!)

Sun Tail Mermaid Tails were spotted of course! Photographer Alyssa Smith brought her Siren Green Tail to the event.

And Mermaid Aria was seen swimming with her Ocean Deep Tail!

The MerMania Convention was founded with the aim of bringing together fellow Mermaid enthusiasts to share knowlege, resources, and friendship. The Mermaid Community is so fabulous! Were you at Mermania? Do you have a local Mermaid event you are planning to attend? Send us your pics!
