It's safe to say that mermaid mania has overtaken the nation and it's not slowing down anytime soon. From mermaid performers to those who want a mermaid tail for photoshoots and cosplay to those who want to swim like a real mermaid, there are many instances of mermaids being celebrated, without even looking at the various movies and books. To take it to another level, there are mermaid parades, where mermaid lovers from all over can gather to dress up, walk, and celebrate everything mermaid.
The largest mermaid parade out there is the Coney Island Mermaid Parade. It's an art parade that is held annually in Coney Island, New York. It's the largest art parade in the United States and is always held each year in June to celebrate the arrival of the summer season. This is by far the biggest mermaid parade in the nation, but don't fret if you don't live near New York or aren't able to make the parade this year. They are going on the 38th parade this year, and it is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Another option is to search your local area for smaller mermaid parades. If you can find one, go enjoy, and if there isn't one in your area, then you could always start your own. Start by making sure you have enough mermaids to participate in the parade, and then go from there as far as looking at permits and the different legalities needed, as well as open weekends, where it would go, and then you can start the fun part, designing the floats and setting up the event with different vendors and others who wish to participate in this fun event.
Mermaid parades may be the most popular in New York, but that doesn't mean the popularity can't expand to smaller towns and areas. Even a mermaid celebration weekend is a great option to set up if you can't make a mermaid parade happen in your hometown.
