Mermaids have influenced our imaginations and brought much joy to our hearts and souls. We are very thankful for mermaids. Have you ever wondered, “What is the origin of Mermaid Mythology?” Today we will dive into Mermaid Mythology to find the answer.

Mermaids have captivated the human mind as far back as 5,000 BC. Mermaids appear in early Mesopotamian mythology as the God Ea, a part fish part human creature who carried information and life to humanity.

The Greek civilizations also had stories of mermaids. They called mermaids sirens. The Greek stories of Sirens portrayed them as a great danger. The Sirens would lure sailors into their grasps with a beautiful Siren’s song. Once captured the Sirens would drag the sailors to their watery graves. Thankfully, over time mermaids were recognized for what they actually are, gentle and kind.

Mermaids have influenced many cultures across the world appearing in the folklore of the Japanese, Africans, and Europeans. The story of mermaids has evolved over the years from being a dangerous creature, to being magical and kind.
