The Most Famous Mermaid Ever!

Posted on

The most famous mermaid ever is probably The Little Mermaid statue on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Little Mermaid statue
Based on the fairy tale of the same name written by Danish author, Hans Christian Anderson, this little bronze statue is only 4.1 ft. tall!  It has been a major tourist attraction since it was set up in 1913.  Notice her beautiful mermaid tail!  Wouldn't Mr. Anderson be surprised to see all the swimmable mermaid tales available now?
Do you know that Hans Christian Anderson has written many famous fairy tales?  They include The Emperor's New Clothes, The Snow Queen, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Match Girl, The Princess and the Pea, and Thumbelina to name just a few of his more than 3,000 fairy tales.  His stories have inspired ballets, plays and films.  Our favorite, of course, is The Little Mermaid!!!
If you would like to check out more sculptures of mermaids around the world, check out this cool map.  Which is your favorite?
